The Wastewater Section reviews plans and issues permits for On-Site Sewage facilities (OSSFs) in un-incorporated Harris County. The permitting process also involves site inspections to ensure proper installation of OSSFs. Inspectors from this office also respond to citizen complaints concerning failing or overflowing OSSFs. Enforcement of Violations of State laws applicable to OSSFs generally takes place as misdemeanor violations handled in the Justice-of-the-Peace courts. Larger, more egregious cases can be sent to the County Attorneys Office for Civil Prosecution.
